The science / 4 generations of protection
Ceramic was the 2nd generation.
We apply the 4th.
Paint protection has evolved in four steps. Each lasted longer than the last, until inorganic glass removed the weak link entirely: carbon. Organic coatings contain carbon, and UV and heat break carbon down. Brila cures into pure silica glass (SiO₂). There's nothing organic left to break.
GEN 1
Wax
Natural or synthetic wax that sits on top of the paint.
Washes and bakes offProtection life: weeks to months
GEN 2
Nano / Ceramic
Organic, carbon-based binders. Most "ceramic" coatings sold today.
UV & heat break it downProtection life: fades over time
GEN 3
Organic glass
A glass-like finish that still contains carbon (C–H) groups.
Still contains carbonProtection life: better, still degrades
GEN 4
Brila inorganic glass
Cures into pure silica glass, bonded to the surface. Zero carbon.
Nothing organic to break down1-yr warranty · up to 3 yrs maintained

Head to head
Ceramic vs inorganic glass.
Nano / Ceramic
- ChemistryOrganic, carbon-based binders
- Lab testCarbon-hydrogen peaks found in every competitor coating Brila tested
- UV & heatBreak the carbon down, so protection fades
- Cure timeUp to 30 days to fully harden
- On a hullRigid ceramics aren't made to flex with the boat
- UpkeepTop-ups as it degrades
Brila inorganic glass
- ChemistryPure inorganic silica glass (SiO₂)
- Lab testSilicon–oxygen only. No organic matter.
- UV & heatAbout 88% of gloss kept after 2 years of accelerated weathering
- Cure time99% hardened in 12 hours, 100% by day 3
- On a hullFormulated to flex with the hull. 8H pencil hardness.
- UpkeepNo waxing. Grime has almost nothing to grip.
Hardening speed after application
pencil hardness. Standard gelcoat is 2H.

Test data from Brila (Japan) product literature. Hardness and gloss retention are measured to Brila's own voluntary standard. The lab test refers to Brila's infrared spectrum comparison against three competitor coatings. The cure-speed chart is redrawn from Brila's density data.
